On Tuesday 4th August we’re especially excited to welcome back an old friend of the jazz club who also happens to be one of our city’s finest musical exports.

A former student at Norwich School, Freddie performed with their Senior Jazz Band and contributed significantly to the local jazz scene before taking his place at the Royal Academy of Music and also joining the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Since graduating and now based around London, Freddie has gone on to perform with some of the best-known and most highly-regarded jazz ensembles in the business, including The John Dankworth Big Band, The BBC Big Band, The Stan Sulzman Jazz Orchestra, The Pasadena Roof Orchestra and The Sid Lawrence Orchestra. His ongoing tenure with the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra dates back to 2007.

Other career highlights include work with Peter Erskine, Joe Locke, John Hendricks, Kenny Wheeler, Stan Sulzmann, Tim Garland, Jon Faddis, Kurt Elling, Gregory Porter, Curtis Stigers, Paloma Faith, Jess Glynne, Seth McFarlane and Dionne Warwick.

August 4th’s event will be a very special date when you can catch Freddie back in his hometown playing an intimate gig with the club’s house trio (as you may well have done when the club was based at the Green Man, Rackheath or The Cottage, Thorpe ..) Don’t miss it!

This clip from 2025 showcases Freddie wonderfully as he performs alongside Elaine Delmar and the Ronnie Scotts house band in their BBC-broadcast tribute to the music of Burt Bacharach.
