This evening Norwich Jazz Club are pleased to feature a top UK instrumentalist, arranger and band leader (and long-standing friend of the club) Andy Panayi, whose superb quintet will be paying homage to the music of Julian ‘Cannonball’ Adderley.
While most of the music associated with Cannonball Adderley was written by his side-men (especially his brother Nat), it was Cannonball that gave the group its distinctive sound.
Andy’s appreciation of Cannonball’s music has lived with him for many years and while writing arrangements to work with a variety of line-ups he’s always stayed as close as possible to the original sound.
Featuring post-bop tunes from a golden era of jazz, the quintet’s repertoire will include tracks from the 1959 album ‘The Cannonball Adderley Quintet in Chicago’, ‘Them Dirty Blues’ from 1960 and ‘Cannonball’s Bossa Nova’ in 1963.
